<a title="Nathan Stiles Winner" href="https://thesimoneawards.com/1-5-2025/2024_nathan_stiles_award_winner__annalise_anderson">Nathan Stiles Award</a>&nbsp;was awarded to Anna Anderson, A kicker and wide receiver for Park Hill High School, who built a remarkable career in her time at Park Hill. Known for her strong leadership skills and dedication, Anna was a stellar kicker and the first female to ever receive a varsity letter in football at Park Hill. She also excels on the basketball court leading her team. Whether through achievements in athletics or serving the community, Anna demonstrates a commitment to excellence and continuous growth, inspiring others along the way. she was recognized as academic all state and is the first KC-area female to make the 18-man roster for the 2024 17U Girls National Team. We are honored to recognize Anna as the 2024 winner of the Nathan Stiles Memorial Award. She continues to inspire girls everywhere with her ambition, drive, and success, which is why she was selected as the winner of the Nathan Stiles Award.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced the winner of the <a title="Coach of the Year Award" href="https://thesimoneawards.com/1-5-2025/2024_chiefs_eric_driskell_high_school_head_coach_of_the_year__chad_frigon">Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award</a>, Chad Frigon of Liberty High School. &nbsp;In his 14th year of coaching, Chad Frigon was recognized in week 10 as the Coach of the Week honoree. His team, the Liberty Blue Jays, finished 9-4, earning their first district title since 2005 and advancing to the Class 6 semifinals, where they came up short.&nbsp;He has an overall school record of 87-64, starting as the freshman football coach and then serving as varsity assistant football coach for 13 years before taking his head coaching job.

This year, we changed the selection process to balance the voting of nominees and winners. The recipients of all of these prestigious awards were selected by a vote of the high school football coaches and select media members in the metropolitan area.&nbsp;
We are incredibly honored to be able to recognize these elite athletes from programs all over the Kansas City Metro area, across Kansas and Missouri. These annual awards highlight the exceptional talent of high school football players, celebrating their achievements both on and off the field.

Anna Anderson, A kicker and wide receiver for Park Hill High School, has built a remarkable career during her time at Park Hill. Known for her strong leadership skills and dedication, Anna was a stellar kicker and the first female to ever receive a varsity letter in football at Park Hill. She also excels on the basketball court, leading her team. Whether through achievements in athletics or serving the community, Anna demonstrates a commitment to excellence and continuous growth, inspiring others along the way. she was recognized as an academic all-state and is the first KC-area female to make the 18-man roster for the 2024 17U Girls National Team. We are honored to recognize Anna as the 2024 Nathan Stiles Memorial Award winner. She continues to inspire girls everywhere with her ambition, drive, and success.
<h2>The History of the Nathan Stiles Award</h2>
The Nathan Stiles Inspiration Award began in 2011 and is given to a person who has made an impact on football in the Metro. The Stiles Award is in memory of Spring Hill player Nathan Stiles, who passed away after being injured in a game in 2010.&nbsp;
Nathan Stiles loved to read the Word of God and made it a part of his everyday life. His heart was for his generation. Our mission is to help others form a life-changing relationship with Jesus through reading and discussing the Word. After his passing, his parents committed to buying Life Application Study Bibles to give away to those who needed them. The Nathan Project was introduced to the more than 3,000 people attending Nathan&rsquo;s memorial, and local and national media covered it. For 14 years now, they've been sharing God's word with others with over 46,000 Bibles distributed, including approximately 15,000 that went to more than 30 correctional facilities in Kansas, Colorado, Iowa, Texas and Missouri. This award is given to a person who has made an impact on football in the Metro.

2024 Nathan Stiles Award Winner: Annalise Anderson

The Interscholastic League Award, established in 2011 to recognize student-athlete efforts in the inner city, honors one or two outstanding football players from the IL. The winner(s) is recognized at the annual Simone Awards ceremony.
Shawn Bridgewater, a senior wide receiver at Central High School, had an exceptional senior season. He finished with 40 receptions, 500 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns. His outstanding performance on the field has earned him scholarship offers from McPherson College and Bethany College, and he is taking his football career to the next level. His hard work and talent continue to pay off, and we're excited to see him perform at the next level as well.&nbsp;
Ashaun Moore, a senior linebacker at Lincoln College Prep Academy, had stellar performances on the field this year. He ended his season with 125 tackles, of which 17 were for a loss, 55 carries for 245 yards, 4 Receptions, and 4 touchdowns. Although he has not yet committed, he has official offers from Central Methodist, Missouri Southern, and Avila to take his football skills to the next level.&nbsp;
The Thomas A. Simone Awards recognized these top athletes at the recent awards ceremony on December 10th and looks forward to continuing to watch them perform at the next level. Congratulations to both!&nbsp;

In its 23rd season, the High School Coach of the Week is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. The program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance weekly while honoring individuals who are shaping today&rsquo;s youth and tomorrow&rsquo;s leaders.
The Kansas City Chiefs select Coaches of the Week from Missouri and Kansas weekly. At the end of the season, the weekly winners are voted on by the board of the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association, and the winner named the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year in honor of the late Blue Valley coach who twice won the award and passed away tragically in 2017 at the age of 43. The Kansas City Chiefs/Eric Driskell Coach of the Year was first presented as part of the Thomas A. Simone Awards in 2018. From 1998 to 2017, a Kansas and Missouri Coach of the Year was selected and awarded at the Simone Awards ceremony.

The 2024 winner of the Coach of the Year award is Chad Frigon of Liberty High School. The Kansas City Chiefs have announced that Liberty High School Head Coach Chad Frigon is the Eric Driskell High School Coach of the Year for the 2024 season. "I am so honored to be recognized with this award. Being a head coach is hardly a one-man job, there are so many people that have worked to make our program what it is," Frigon said. "I have been lucky to be surrounded by great people. We are so appreciative of what the Chiefs do to promote high school football programs in Kansas City."

2024 Chiefs Eric Driskell High School Head Coach of the Year: Chad Frigon

The Otis Taylor Award recognizes the most outstanding wide receiver or tight end in the Kansas City metropolitan area. In addition to the trophy, which will reside at the recipient's high school for one year, the Simone-Fontana Foundation will donate $1,500 to the school's athletic department.
<h3 class="cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body">The 2024 Otis Taylor Award winner is Isaiah Mozee, senior wide receiver for Lee's Summit North. </h3>
Mozee ended the year with 53 catches, 824 yards &amp; 13 touchdowns. He is an incredibly talented athlete and was noted by Sports Illustrated as the second highest-rated player overall for 2024. He has committed to attend Nebraska in the Fall and is noted as their #1 recruit of his class.&nbsp;
Otis Taylor was one of his era's best and most exciting wide receivers. He played in three AFC-NFC Pro Bowls, following the 1970-72 seasons. After his career, he owned the Kansas City Chiefs' career records for receiving yards (7,306), receiving touchdowns (57), and 100-yard receiving games (20). Otis Taylor's 410 career receptions rank second in team history.
He may be best known for his dazzling 46-yard touchdown pass in Super Bowl IV, which helped the Chiefs upset the Minnesota Vikings. Inducted into the Kansas City Chiefs Ring of Honor in 1982, he wore number 89 as a Chiefs player. The school has retired his number 17 from his college days at Prairie View A&amp;M.

In 2007, at the suggestion of high school football referee Curtis Whiters, the Simone-Fontana Foundation contacted Otis Taylor family friend and Kansas City icon Ollie Gates about starting the Otis Taylor Award to recognize the most outstanding wide receiver/tight end in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Ollie took the idea to Otis Taylor and his family, who gave the award their blessing.&nbsp;

This award recognizes the most outstanding defensive lineman/linebacker in the small classes (Missouri Classes 1-4 and Kansas Classes 1A-4A).&nbsp;
<h2 class="cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body">The Winner of the 2024 Bobby Bell Award is Ashton Moore.&nbsp;</h2>
The winner of the 2024 Bobby Bell Award is Ashton Moore. With 125 tackles, 8 for loss, 4 forced fumbles and 2 sacks, Moore also rushed for 1,000+ yards and had 18 offensive touchdowns. He had an amazing senior season and has committed to K-State to take his football career to the next level.&nbsp;
<h2 class="cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body">Who is Bobby Bell?</h2>
Bobby Bell was the most highly honored college lineman of the 1962 season. His coach at the University of Minnesota described the two-time All-America choice and Outland Trophy winner as &ldquo;the greatest lineman I have ever seen.&rdquo;
It&rsquo;s hard to believe the versatile 6-4, 228-pound Bell began his college career as a quarterback. The Kansas City Chiefs of the then-young American Football League were so convinced that Bobby would sign with the Minnesota Vikings of the rival National Football League that they didn&rsquo;t even bother selecting him until the seventh round of the 1963 draft. The University of Minnesota star stunned the pro football world when he opted to sign with the Chiefs.
Bobby began his 12-year career with Kansas City as a defensive end. He excelled in coach Hank Stram&rsquo;s &ldquo;stack defense,&rdquo; which allowed him to drop out of the 4-3 alignment and become a fourth linebacker. In 1965, Bobby was shifted to outside linebacker after winning all-league honors as a defensive end the previous season. His size and speed made him ideal for the position. As a linebacker, he was named All-AFL or All-NFL every year from 1965 through 1971.
During his career, the versatile Bobby intercepted 26 passes, returning six for touchdowns. He also scored on an onside kick and recovered two fumbles.
Built-in the shape of an inverted pyramid with massive shoulders tapering down to a 32-inch waist, Bobby presented a fearsome appearance on the field. He had the physique to withstand and deal with punishment. What made him stand out from the crowd was his superior approach to the game, his willingness to play anywhere, even when injured, and his great joy at just playing the game. Bobby was the first Kansas City Chiefs player to be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The award is given to the football player who is most representative of excellence on the playing field. Along with the trophy, which resides at the high school of the recipient for a period of one year, the Simone-Fontana Foundation presents a donation of $1,500 to the athletic department of the recipient&rsquo;s high school.
The Bobby Bell Award, established in 2000, is presented annually to the most outstanding defensive lineman or linebacker in the small class (Missouri Classes 1-4 and Kansas Classes 1A-4A) category. The award is named for former Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro and Pro Football Hall of Fame player Bobby Bell, who addressed the athletes at the recent ceremony.

2024 Bobby Bell Award Winner: Ashton Moore

<h2 class="cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body">The History of the Buck Buchanan Award</h2>
The Junious &ldquo;Buck&rdquo; Buchanan Memorial Award was established in 1992 and is presented annually to the most outstanding lineman or linebacker in the big class (Missouri Classes 5-6 and Kansas Classes 5A-6A) category. From 1992- 99, the award was given to one Missouri and one Kansas player, but the award has only been given to the most outstanding player since 2000.&nbsp;
The winner of the 2024 Buck Buchanan Award was Mill Valley Senior linebacker and defensive end Jayden Woods.&nbsp; 
Jayden Woods, a senior defensive end at Mill Valley High School, had an incredible season, earning him the title of the 2024 Buck Buchanan Award. Woods was a key to the Jaguar's successful season, nearly securing another state title but came up short in sectionals by 1 point.
Throughout the season, Woods accumulated impressive statistics, including 90 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and an interception, bringing his career totals to 212 tackles, 20.5 sacks, and 25.5 tackles for loss over 37 games.
In addition, he is an incredible multi-sport athlete, qualifying for Kansas State wrestling and being a 2X state champion in discus. He has already committed to college at the University of Florida.&nbsp;&nbsp;
His athletic performance earned him several accolades in his high school career, including:

<li>Two-time Sports in Kansas Top 11 selection</li>

<h2 class="cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body">Who was Buck Buchanan?</h2>
Buck Buchanan was the first player drafted in the 1963 American Football League Draft. Selected by the Kansas City Chiefs, Buck quickly proved the rave notices that preceded him were not unfounded. Eddie Robinson, his coach at Grambling, where he had been an NAIA All-America in 1962, called him &ldquo;the finest lineman I have seen.&rdquo;
Others who had watched Buck in action were equally enthusiastic. Born September 10, 1940, in Gainesville, Alabama, Buck had the physical size &ndash; 6-7 and 270 pounds &ndash; plus the athletic instincts to be exceptionally successful at his job of foiling opposition offenses. He was particularly effective at intimidating the passer, and, in one season alone in 1967, he batted down 16 opposition passes at or behind the line of scrimmage. He was clocked at 4.9 in the 40 and 10.2 in the 100 at Grambling, and with that speed, he could range from sideline to sideline to make tackles.
Despite the weekly pounding he took on the scrimmage line, Buck was extremely durable. He played in 182 career games, including a string of 166 straight. After dabbling briefly at defensive end as a rookie, Buck settled down to his permanent job as the Chiefs&rsquo; defensive right tackle. He was named to his first AFL All-Star game after his second season in 1964. It was the first of an eight-season period during which he played in either the AFL All-Star game or the AFC-NFC Pro Bowl. He was a virtually unanimous All-AFL choice from 1966 through 1969 and then won All-AFC honors in 1970 and 1971. He was a defensive leader for the Chiefs in their losing effort in Super Bowl I. Then he was outstanding in Kansas City&rsquo;s 23-7 upset of Minnesota in Super Bowl IV that saw the Buchanan-led defense completely stifle the vaunted Vikings attack.
Buck was a gentle and caring individual who took great pride in working with and helping people throughout the Kansas City community. Along with the trophy, which resides at the recipient's high school for one year, the Simone-Fontana Foundation presents a donation of $1,500 to the athletic department of the recipient&rsquo;s high school.

2024 Buck Buchanan Award Winner: Jayden Woods

The Frank Fontana Memorial Award was established in 1999 in memory of Frank Fontana, an outstanding athlete who excelled in football and basketball. In 1981, Frank captained the State Champion St. Pius X High School football team. He was also selected to the all-Northland team that year. In basketball, he captained the Warriors&rsquo; squad.
The Frank Fontana Memorial Award is presented to the most outstanding high school football player in the smaller class (Missouri Classes 1-4 and Kansas Classes 1A-4A) category. The award is given to the football player WHO IS most representative of excellence on the playing field. If the area coaches and media select a smaller-class player to win the Simone Award, that player may not also win the Fontana Award. No player may win both awards in the same year. Along with the trophy, which resides at the recipient's high school for one year, the Simone-Fontana Foundation presents a donation of $1,500 to the athletic department of the recipient&rsquo;s high school.

Kobe Westphal is a well-known athlete around Warrensburg. This season, he threw for 3,699 yards and 40 touchdowns and led his team to district and conference championships.&nbsp;

2024 Frank Fontana Award Winner: Kobe Westphal

This award is presented annually to the most outstanding high school football player in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area. The award was originally established in 1932 in the name of Dr. D. M. Nigro and continued until Dr. Nigro&rsquo;s death in 1976.
<h2 class="p3">The History of the Award</h2>
No award was given from 1976-83 until Mr. &amp; Mrs Anthony Simone, as a tribute to their 12-year-old son Tommy, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident in April of 1983, reinstated the award.
The recipient of this prestigious award is selected by a vote of the high school football coaches and select media members. The award is given to the football player who best represents excellence on the playing field. The trophy presented today symbolizes the qualities of love, courage, and friendship- the qualities young Tommy so aptly displayed.
Along with the trophy, which resides at the recipient's high school for one year, the Simone-Fontana Foundation presents a donation of $1,500 to the athletic department of the recipient&rsquo;s high school.
<h3 class="p1">And the winner of the 2024 Thomas A. Simone Award is Jaxon Hicks, Senior RB, Liberty High School</h3>
Jaxon Hicks, a senior at Liberty High School, had an incredible season, leading his team to the state semifinals. Jaxon finished the year as the leading rusher in Missouri with 2,700+ yards and 31 touchdowns, securing his place as the top high school athlete. He is the first running back to win the award since 2019.

Five players were named finalists for this year&rsquo;s award. All had an incredible season and are standout players within the Metropolitan area. Here's a few quick facts about them this season.
Isaiah Mozee, Senior WR, Lee&rsquo;s Summit North
Isaiah Mozee, an All-American from Lee&rsquo;s Summit North, is recognized as one of the nation&rsquo;s top receivers. A four-year varsity starter, he concluded his high school career with over 3,000 receiving yards and 42 touchdowns, adding more than 600 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns to his impressive resume. Isaiah has signed to play at Nebraska next year, continuing his remarkable football journey.
Banks Bowen, Senior QB, Lawrence
Banks Bowen, a senior quarterback for Lawrence High School, showcased exceptional talent throughout his career. He amassed over 4,000 passing yards and 36 touchdowns while also rushing for more than 2,000 yards and 27 touchdowns. In his senior season alone, Banks recorded over 2,300 passing yards and 23 touchdowns, along with 800 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns. He is committed to continuing his football career at Tulsa next year.
Tate Nagy, Senior QB, Blue Valley West
Tate Nagy capped off an impressive junior season with an outstanding senior campaign, completing 181 passes for over 2,500 yards with a 69% completion rate. He recorded 25 passing touchdowns and showcased his dual-threat ability with over 500 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. Leading Blue Valley West to the state semifinals, Tate&rsquo;s stellar performance secured his commitment to play at Kansas next year.
Rocco Marriott, Junior QB, Platte County
Rocco Marriott, Junior, Platte County's standout quarterback, has had an extraordinary season. Through 11 games, he has amassed over 2,400 passing yards and 34 touchdowns, playing a pivotal role in leading Platte County to the state championship game.

Simone Watch List 2023

This year&rsquo;s draft is in the books and another Simone winner heard his named called. This time Not only was a Simone winner drafted but he heard his name called in his home town as Kansas City hosted the draft.
Park Hill&rsquo;s Ronnie Bell was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the seventh round and he becomes the ninth Simone winner to be drafted. In addition to Simone winners three Buchanan winners and a Bell winner have also been drafted.

2022 All Simone Team

The season is just around the corner and players across the Metro will start chasing championships. When the dust has settled champions will be crowned and individual honors will be awarded.
No individual honor is bigger than the annual Thomas A. Simone Award given to the top all-around football player in the Kansas City Metro. Since 1983 the award has symbolized excellence on and off the field.
When the season is over all the awards under The Simone Awards presented by The McCarthy Auto group will be awarded at the winner&rsquo;s high school.
We are a few months away from that happening and games have yet to be played. This season we are going to highlight some of the top players who could be candidates for The Simone Award in our weekly Simone Watch. Each week we will highlight players who are making waves and putting their name in the conversation for all the awards given out by the foundation.
Our first Simone Watch looks at the biggest award of them all the Thomas A. Simone Award. Here are some names to keep an eye on as the season goes on.
Traditional candidates The award has been given out times and 30 of those awards have gone to a running back or quarterback. Here are some names to keep an eye on this year.

This is a deep pool of talent. Van Dyne was a finalist last year and would look to be one to watch this year. Stubblefield was a key member of Northwest&rsquo;s state championship team and could be the second straight Husky to win the award after Mikey Pauley took home the honor last season. There are several others that had strong junior seasons and will now look to lead their teams to great heights in 2022.
Receivers and Athletes There have been a few receivers or overall athletes that have taken home the honor and this year there is a group of very talented players who could break through.

Linemen or defensive players There have been just a couple of players who either put their hand in the dirt or play on the defensive side, but it can happen. This year has a group that could make some noise.

While it may be rare that a lineman or defense player wins, this could be a group that gets it done. These four are easily the most highly recruited players in the Metro. The three seniors have committed to top 25 programs and Laster was the winner of the Buck Buchanan Award given to the top lineman or linebacker last year as a sophomore.
Small school player No player from a Class 1-4 team has ever won The Simone Award but that doesn&rsquo;t mean it can&rsquo;t happen.

Carroll was a contender last year when Aquinas was in Kansas 5A. The two junior running backs could be in a position to put up eyepopping numbers on teams that will be very good this season.
